How much does a ticket cost at your usual movie theater? Does the price affect the number of movies you see at the theater?
Submitted by Kristie.
(Yay! This question was recommended by my friend Kristie!)
A movie ticket here is $12. That's a lot, and it does affect the amount of movies we see in theater. On weekends though, all showtimes before noon are $6. So sometimes we'll go in early and see something. This weekend we did that - we went to an 11:15am showing of WALL-E.
They are opening a movie theater in Hoboken though, and I'm very excited for that. It should be cheaper, and so much closer! We'll be able to walk to it. They just started construction, and it's supposed to open next year.
How many houses have you lived in? How is where you live now different from where you grew up?
I have lived in two houses. One I do not remember, we moved before I was one year old. The second I lived in for 17ish years.
Since then, I have lived in:
-Brody Hall, Michigan State University
-Apartment above Blockbuster, East Lansing, MI
-Mason Hall, Michigan State University
-Apartment above Blockbuster, East Lansing, MI
-Mason Hall, Michigan State University
-Apartment in Rome
-731 Burcham Apartments, East Lansing, MI
-Apartment in Hoboken
That's eight different places in 6 years! I've been in Hoboken for just over 2 years, so it was also eight different places in 4 years.
The main difference of where I live now verses where I grew up is that our square mile block at home has maybe 100 people, and Hoboken is about a square mile and has 40,000+.
What's your "go-to" movie? The one you watch when you need to just get away from it all?

It's not a movie, but I watch it on DVD, so I'm still counting it.
I have watched Gilmore Girls seasons 1 through 7 more times than I can count. My friend Emma and I watched our DVDs regularly during college, and always watched the new episodes together whenever we could. Watching Gilmore Girls now has not lost any of the fun (the episodes get better and better the more you know them) and it's now also extremely comforting.
When I moved to New York, whenever I got homesick I would watch a few episodes, and I always felt better. When it comes to getting away from it all, there's no better fictional place than Stars Hallow.
In terms of actual movies, I have several that get a lot of use because they are entertaining, familiar, and comforting. The ones that come to mind are: The Sure Thing, Pride and Prejudice, A Prairie Home Companion, and Breakfast at Tiffany's.
One in four American adults read NO books last year. How many did you read?
I heard this a while ago, and I still have trouble believing it. I don't think I know anyone who didn't read a book last year.
I read 70 books last year, which I wrote about here. I also made a flow chart of my favorites.
What's the best book you read this year?
I'm working on a special post about all my favorite books I read this year, but I won't be able to post it until after I'm back in Hoboken, since I need Indesign to do it. Hopefully I'll have it done and posted by the second week in January.
But for now, here are some of books I read and loved this year:
-Special Topics in Calamity Physics by Marisha Pessl
-The Namesake by Jhumpa Lahiri
-Water for Elephants by Sara Gruen
-The Eyre Affair by Jasper Fforde
-The Reluctant Fundamentalist by Mohsin Hamid
-Look Me in the Eye by John Elder Robison
-How Proust Can Change Your Life by Alain de Botton
-The Principles of Uncertainty by Maira Kalman
-Atonement by Ian McEwan
What is your favorite holiday recipe?
It is not, of course, strictly a holiday food, but it feels very Christmas-y to me. I first had them when one of my favorite high school teachers brought them in for us on the last day of school before Christmas break, and since then I've made them every Christmas and shared them with friends and family. I actually just made some tonight, to bring to our secret santa exchange at work tomorrow.
You buy a bag of small pretzels, a bag of Hershey's kisses, and a medium bag of m&ms.
Preheat the oven to 250 degrees.
Arrange some pretzels (no broken ones) on a cookie sheet, in a single layer.
Unwrap the kisses and put one in the center of each pretzel.
Put them in the oven for 5 minutes.
Remove and immediately smoosh down the melted kisses in the center with an m&m.
Make sure the 'm' side is up.
Let most of them cool, but eat a few of them a little bit after removing from the oven while they are still melty and warm. Those ones will be extra delicious. The rest need to cool for several hours before you can move them around and safely stack them for storage or travel.
Make as many as you want, but the kisses will usually run out first (unless you buy a personal size bag of m&ms and not the big bag) so get a few bags of kisses if you want to make a lot.
