This past tuesday I saw John Mayer and Ben Folds at the PNC Bank Arts Center with Laura. It was an incredible concert. We had seats in row 5, which is by far the closest I've ever been at a John Mayer concert. It was the fifth time I've seen John, and the third time I've seen Ben. I'm beginning to be a bit of a John Mayer Deadhead.
This was a dream concert for me, two of my very favorite musicians in one go. And it was great. However, the Ben Folds part was a bit of a letdown. The crowd wasn't very into him, not like at his own shows where people stand and sing the entire time. And he didn't play any of my favorite songs, or much old stuff. The highlight though, was him doing a cover of one of my favorite songs, "Such Great Heights." The photo above is him playing keyboard during that song. It was great to see him again, but I definitely prefer him at his own shows where he can really shine.
It was incredible to finally be close enough to the stage to see John Mayer clearly. He was extremely entertaining, as always, and talked a lot. His set list was awesome - all songs that I really like. And I love when he does Stop This Train acoustic. Set list:

One of my Vox neighbors and book club friends, Carmen, posted a fun post about things she's looking forward to.
I thought this was a nice idea for a post, because as she says, there's always something to look forward to.
Some Things I'm Looking Forward To:
-A Blendini at Rita's Ice Cream tonight
-My family visiting NYC next month
-Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows
-John Mayer with Ben Folds at the PNC Center
-Stephen Colbert's book
-The two trips home to Michigan I have planned for this summer
My first concert in new york. Madison Square Garden. John Mayer. Things don't get much better than that.
John was incredible, as always. He was charming, funny, clever, chatty and appreciative. I've seen him four times now, and each time has been better than the last. This show gave me a real appreciation for Continuum, an album I love (especially now) but that took me longer to get into than his previous releases. My favorite songs from it are Stop This Train and The Heart of Life.
His encore was amazing. He came into the middle of the floor and stood on a small stage and sang Stop This Train and Your Body is a Wonderland, just him and his guitar. Then he went on stage and joined the band for Vultures and Gravity. During Gravity Alicia Keys made a surprise visit and sang with him. It was incredible. Madison Square Garden is the most amazing venue. It's massive and yet still intimate, and if you could harness the crowd's energy it would power Manhattan for the evening.
